Golfing at Hammock Beach Resort

This past Friday through Sunday, I stayed at the Hammock Beach Resort for an annual golf outing.  The Hammock Beach Resort is just a little over an hour away from Orlando. I really enjoyed the stay.

The negatives were few.

  • High priced drinks offered out on the courses
  • Long wait for shuttle to pick us up from offsite course

The positives were many including:

  • Spacious corner condo roomie enough for 4 guys
  • Delicious sandwiches served both in the main dining area and the smaller driving range restaurant
  • Beautiful, well maintained golf courses and friendly marshals and staff
  • Unlimited driving range/practice area
  • Amazing ocean views from several challenging holes

When you finish 20th out of 20 golfers and still have a good time, a lot of the credit goes to where you are staying.   Check it out.

Play a round of golf at Dubsdread Golf Course in College Park

Dubsdread Golf Course

Ellen’s dad is 92 years old and he and a friend try and play 9 holes of golf every Tuesday and Thursday morning.  Ellen and I get the opportunity to play with them occasionally.

The Dubsdread golf curse is said to be named for causing dread in new or inexperienced golfers.  Ellen and I can attest to this with many a ball lost in the water hazards or woods surrounding some of the greens.  A recent article in the College Park Community Paper highlighted that the course is nearing it’s 95th year of existence!

We enjoyed a quick 9 holes this morning.  There were golfers in front and behind us but the pace stayed steady and we never felt pressured.  A couple of par putts and an amazing miss on the only birdie putt were the best Ellen and I could muster this morning.

If you are looking for a fun  golf course to play, check out Dubsdread.

Country Club of Orlando golf course reopens this weekend

country club orlandoEllen and I are excited that the Country Club of Orlando will be reopening this weekend after being closed for renovations since April of this year.

We are anxious to head back out and see the improvements.  Play starts this weekend however we will not be able to start working on our handicap until sometime next week.  Our schedules are packed with UCF football and our office party approaching.
