Lake Kissimmee fishing Jethro Baits Team Bass Tournament

Lake Kissimmee State Park will be the site of the Jethro Baits Team Bass fishing tournament. The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 5:30am – 3:00pm. You can visit the Jethro Baits website to download a register package.

Lake Kissimmee is described as Florida’s third largest lake and the park offers many activities including hiking, horse trails, camping and picnic areas.

Civil War Encampment De Leon Springs State Park

De Leon Springs State Park is located 6 miles north of DeLand and within an hours drive of Orlando. On January 9-10, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. guests of the park will enjoy a Civil War encampment. This even will include showing how the soldiers drilled, slept and prepared their meals.

Florida State Parks offer free entrance the weekend of September 11-13

Visitors to Florida State Parks, including those in Central Florida near Orlando will be able to take advantage of the free admission to enter the parks on September 11-13 as part of the Statewide International Literacy Day on September 8th and National Library Card Signup Month.

Simply bring a library card, library book, or donate a book and as part of the State Park Literacy Month you will be allowed to enter the park for free! Central Florida literacy month activities include:

Reading by the River
Blue Spring State Park
Sunday, September 13, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
This event will feature a book exchange and story time on the front porch of the historic Thursby House. Children can bring a gently used book and exchange it for another book. At 12:15 p.m., children of all ages can relax and enjoy a nature themed tale. For more information, call (386) 775-3663.

Wekiwa Springs State Park
Saturday, September 19, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Enjoy an interactive book with master storyteller, Debbie. “Amazing Things that Animals Do”, “Lovable Huggable Manatees” and “Truffala Trees that are Saved by the Lorax” are just a sample of the readings that will be shared with children of all ages.
