Florida State Parks offer free entrance the weekend of September 11-13

Visitors to Florida State Parks, including those in Central Florida near Orlando will be able to take advantage of the free admission to enter the parks on September 11-13 as part of the Statewide International Literacy Day on September 8th and National Library Card Signup Month.

 

Simply bring a library card, library book, or donate a book and as part of the State Park Literacy Month you will be allowed to enter the park for free!  Central Florida literacy month activities include:

 

  • Reading by the River
    Blue Spring State Park
    Sunday, September 13, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    This event will feature a book exchange and story time on the front porch of the historic Thursby House. Children can bring a gently used book and exchange it for another book. At 12:15 p.m., children of all ages can relax and enjoy a nature themed tale. For more information, call (386) 775-3663.
  • Story Time with Debbie
    Wekiwa Springs State Park
    Saturday, September 19, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    Enjoy an interactive book with master storyteller, Debbie. “Amazing Things that Animals Do”, “Lovable Huggable Manatees” and “Truffala Trees that are Saved by the Lorax” are just a sample of the readings that will be shared with children of all ages. State Parks near Orlando

July 4th fireworks at Lake Eola Park Orlando

Downtown Orlando is the place to be this July 4th. There will be fireworks and festivities that will begin at 4 p.m. with fireworks set to launch at 9:15 p.m. This year’s event is called “Fireworks at the Fountain” and will be held at Lake Eola Park.
